PHILADELPHIA — Today, Mayor Kenney’s campaign submitted over 24,000 signatures on his nominating petitions to officially place his name on the ballot for re-election as Mayor of Philadelphia in the upcoming Democratic primary election.
Here’s a statement from the campaign:
“Mayor Kenney has returned our schools to local control, invested half a billion in new funding for schools, and started the city’s first free pre-K program – already benefiting over 4,000 children. Under the Mayor’s leadership, the local prison population has been safely reduced by 42 percent, thousands of new jobs have been created, and unemployment has decreased.
“The Mayor’s two primary opponents are corporate shills for the multibillion dollar beverage industry who want to turn back the clock on the Mayor’s progressive agenda. It’s not surprising that vested corporate interests would back someone like Sen. Williams, who supports a radical pro-charter agenda that would make Betsy DeVos proud. And Alan Butkovitz? He can’t even get a website up.”
