PHILADELPHIA — Today, Kenney for Philadelphia announced the first round of endorsements in support of Mayor Kenney’s re-election bid. These endorsements are from prominent elected leaders at both the federal and state levels.

“I’m honored to have the support of some of my colleagues in both Harrisburg and Washington,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “I hope to be able to work with each of them for four more years to advance an agenda that helps all of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods reach their true potential.”

Here are the individuals endorsing Mayor Kenney:

Governor Tom Wolf:

“Jim Kenney has been an invaluable partner to me as we’ve worked to improve the education of our children. He’s worked with me to invest in Philadelphia public schools, expand pre-K for low-income children, and pay our teachers the fair salaries they deserve. Philadelphia has a strong leader and relentless champion in Jim Kenney.”

U.S. Senator Bob Casey:

“Philadelphia has made tremendous progress since Mayor Kenney took office. He’s investing in education, taking on the opioid crisis, and standing up for our immigrant communities. We need his strong leadership to keep moving Philadelphia forward.”

U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans:

“At the end of the day, I don’t think there could be anybody better as mayor of this city. Jim Kenney is committed to improving every neighborhood and every community — with real results to show for it.”

U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle:

“At this point in our nation’s history, strong elected leaders at the local level are more important than ever. We’ve seen how Jim has stood up to this President whenever he’s taken reckless actions that negatively impact Philadelphia residents. That’s the kind of leadership our city needs.”

U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon:

“I’m proud to support Jim Kenney for re-election. Mayor Kenney’s support for education and labor is crucial for the region, and my district which includes South and Southwest Philadelphia. I look forward to partnering with him on projects to benefit our shared community.”

State Senator Vincent Hughes:

“Jim Kenney has always wanted to make a difference, especially for those who don’t have a champion. He has an agenda that puts people first.”

Lt. Governor John Fetterman:

“I believe that Jim Kenney is the most effective progressive mayor in America. Jim took on very powerful special interests, without hesitation, to make free pre-K a reality for thousands of Philadelphia children. He’s not afraid to stand up to the millionaires and billionaires that stand in the way of progress.”
